I was called to have an interview two weeks ago. It was a "vetting" interview. There were two principals and they were seeing many teacher candidates that day. I had my 30 minutes to answer the prerequisite questions. How would I handle a student who is disruptive?(classroom management) How do I know if I am reaching my students?(differentiation, assessment). What would I handle criticism by superiors?( professional learning communities and growth, self reflection) We talked or I answered for ~35-40 minutes and then it was time for my questions, whole school behavior plans and strategies and professional growth opportunities? And then it was over, they said that they would get back to me middle of this last week. Guess what, they did and I got the job! In this horrible economy, and with so many teachers from last year still in the system, with other districts not hiring and with not enough teachers retiring......I got a job in June!!! I am in suspended animation. I was thinking that I would have to fight hard, take a job two days before the school year started. I thought that I would have to substitute for a year and maybe get a job. I was not prepared to get the job. It was truly a great feeling. Now, this job is a non-renewing( I am covering for a teacher who is taking the year off to have her baby) There is risk in this, I could be out there looking next year, but at least I will have a year behind me and some more experience. It does pay to work very hard!
